In 1895, when Autocrat was incorporated as the Brownell & Field Company, our founder, Frank O. Field, was planning the introduction of "the most delicious coffee you ever tasted." While reading a series of essays in The Atlantic Monthly titled "The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table, " his attention was drawn to the word Autocrat, one who rules with undisputed sway. It was then that our flagship product, Autocrat Coffee, got its name.

Our great grandfather's early insistence upon "only the best" is still the driving force behind the Autocrat of today, now a thriving company whose people take appropriate pride in Autocrat's continuing respect for quality in every area of the business. Autocrat is a team of creative and energetic people dedicated to producing superb quality coffees, coffee extracts, and flavored syrups. We are the world's leading producer of coffee syrup, the main ingredient in coffee milk, the Official State Drink of Rhode Island. |

Fresh coffee beans from around the world arrive each day at Autocrat's modern facility in Lincoln, RI. To produce truly great coffee, for which Autocrat is known, the beans are examined carefully, are blended and roasted to achieve full-bodied flavor, and are brought to the tasting table for "cupping". Autocrat is a leading roaster of organic and fairly traded coffees in the United States. We offer several different blends of coffee available in a variety of packages, including our gourmet line Newport Coffee Traders. |

Autocrat contributes to many charitable organizations, including Coffee Kids which helps children in coffee producing countries, and the United Way which has been a part of our corporate and individual culture for many years. Also, pound by pound and pint by pint, we donate tons of coffee and gallons of coffee syrup to many local fund raising activities.
